Chris Neufeld and Donovan Giesbrecht recently joined to create an intimate, musical duo, placing priority on song and voice. The recorded result - Points of View - is a fine collection of stories and melodies that is sure to impress more than a few. The clear intent of the album was to keep arranging to a minimum, allowing the songs to carry by their own merit; acoustic guitars, pedal steel, and the occasional banjo is all that accompanies the melodies and harmonies.
The album was produced by Mike Petkau, who continues to build an impressive performance and production resume himself, as well as launching his own label (Head in the Sand Records). Petkau’s experienced guidance and engineering proficiency paved the way for the resultant captivating recording, which showcases fine songwriting and enticing harmony. Indeed, as evidenced by the effortless and seamless blending of voices, reminders of Paul and Art are difficult to avoid.
